This is a post about one of the strongest individuals that I know, both physically and mentally. Here goes nothin’.
The first time I saw you ever was, of course, in the Stony Brook Recreation Center, lifting some heavy weights. I always admired you from afar, but I never knew how to approach you. A few weeks later, you presented alongside some other strong individuals, at one of the annual “Women and Weightlifting” seminars that the SB Strength Club held.
At this specific seminar, you spoke of how you were reluctant at first of sharing with us all a part of your personal journey, but boy, am I glad that you went ahead and were able to do so. You spoke of your beloved mother’s passing, and how powerlifting was an outlet for you – how it helped you cope with all of the internal struggles you have faced since then.
Because of this one time I heard you speak, I knew from then on that you were someone special. I wanted to get to know you, and I’m so glad that I finally mustered up the courage to add you on Facebook, after that one Strength Club mock meet back in April 2014.
Our friendship has been going strong for two years now, and I’m the luckiest girl in the world to call you one of my people.
Who are you to me, you may ask? Well, for starters, you are someone that I can confide in, someone that I know will always give me sound advice. You have always been there for me each and every time I have struggled, and I cannot thank you enough. You are there for me in the bad times and the good times.
I call you “Jigsaw Puzzle” because though sometimes you may seem lost in it all, (I mean, let’s face it, life can be pretty rough), you are able to come out on top by being the person you were made to be; a strong, independent, woman, who knows how to love, and be loved. You are able to put the pieces together and become one with your emotions.
Please don’t ever once think that you are invaluable. I loved this weekend, because I was able to see you in action, doing what you love and doing what you do best. It is no secret that you are such an incredible human being. Thank you for showing me time and time again what it means to be physically and mentally strong, I will forever treasure who you are in my life.
I love you lots.
